This summer we’d like to kick off our luncheon series by welcoming our colleagues at Embark to discuss Oklahoma City’s announced Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line.  The first of its kind in Oklahoma City, the BRT line will follow N Classen Boulevard to Northwest Expressway, and on to Meridian Avenue.  The service will connect to the streetcar, giving commuters an option for reaching downtown offices, restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues without having to drive and park.  It is anticipated that design will continue through 2021, with construction beginning that same year.

    Speaker

    Kristen Torkelson

    Environmental Specialist, Cardinal Engineering

Kristen Torkelson has been the Community Engagement Liaison for the Oklahoma City Streetcar and EMBARK’s family of services for only a few months but her interest in the OKC Streetcar dates back to 2016 where she was the Streetcar Construction Communication Liaison. As the liaison for the OKC Streetcar she would communicate with stakeholders along the route and update them daily on the happenings during construction. It was during this time that Kristen developed an extensive knowledge of fixed guideway and how it affected those working and living along the route. Kristen’s passion for transit is evident in her day to day work as the Community Engagement Liaison. Kristen has a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
